Jock is a long way from home and living under very difficult circumstances.
We think it is important to keep Jock’s story alive in people’s minds, otherwise there is a risk that he will be lost and without a voice in the Bulgarian penal system. Please read the material on the website and encourage your friends to do do the same so that as many people as possible will hear of Jock’s plight.
Since 2011, the Australian Government has attempted to negotiate with the Bulgarian Government for Jock to be transferred to an Australian prison to serve the remainder of his sentence. So far the transfer has been refused by Bulgaria.
It is very important that the authorities in both countries are aware of the public concern for Jock and our desire (on humanitarian grounds) for Jock to serve the remainder of his sentence closer to family and friends. The Australian Government has been very supportive of Jock and his family during and after the court process and we want this same level of interest and support to continue.
If you are concerned by Jock’s plight, the lack of a fair trial in Bulgaria and the ongoing delays in his Jock’s prisoner transfer to Australia to serve the remainder of his prison sentence, it would help if you could write regarding this issue to:
1) In Australia - your federal Member of Parliament and/or the Minister for Foreign Affairs, The Hon Julie Bishop at julie.bishop.MP@aph.gov.au
2) In any country - the Bulgarian Embassy in your country.
Jock very much appreciates receiving mail and visits. As you can imagine, it is important for his morale to see a friendly face during visiting hours, so consider a visit to Bulgaria to see Jock if you are overseas. Jock also enjoys reading letters - as long or short as you like, with plenty of details about what you are doing.
